Instead of sitting in front of a screen to review their designs, Life Kitchens’ state-of-the-art 4D VR Theatre – which is situated in their London showroom – places customers in the heart of the space, providing a real idea of its potential look, feel and functionality. This remarkable level of immersion is a game-changer for kitchen design, bringing projects to life prior to build in a way that has never been possible before.

360-degree virtual reality

While the results are incredibly clever, the VR Theatre process couldn’t be simpler. Body and hand movements are tracked, and the information relayed on screen through a 360-degree 4D virtual-reality headset. The client can experience proposed layouts, materials and colour choices without moving much more than a finger. They can even open cupboards and interact with appliances simply by touching them.

The design process subsequently becomes a sensory experience and a real opportunity to trial what does and doesn’t work before final plans are decided. From altering cabinetry colours and worktop materials to rejigging cupboard layouts, appliance positions and lighting options, it’s possible to amend every last detail to ensure the final space really nails its brief and makes clients’ kitchen dreams a reality.
